pump(???) problems,all help is needed..
« on: January 20, 2008, 01:53:27 pm »
hello

i have some problems with my pump that i cant seem to solve...

the pump cant sustain idle when cold,it starts fine and then the rpm drop to almost engine shutdown.
after 3m it starts to climb to 1000rpm that is the minimum that i can lower and have some power...
with this settings the cold start lever as no effect on idle or anything else.
don't know why but the boost peaks at 1.6bar(k24) with a  closed waste gate.
the boost pin is with a reshaped cone and the star wheel is all way down.

i have rotated the shaft on the T.linkage to get the full travel(cant lower idle that way more) and messed with the idle screws to the point that it will disengage from the plastic piece its attached to.
even that way the idle is at 1000rpm +- and the engine doesnt show signs of almost runaway.

all this problems came when the car went to the shop to do some work.
the work done was:
valve adjustment
metal head-gasket
merc 261 nozzles at 155bar
timing belt
rebuilt pump

because the rebuilt pump was not working properly the old pump was  in again but the engine showed this symptoms that before didn't came with the same pump.
the guy that worked on the car tried to swap the governor assembly and such to the rebuilt pump but with no luck.
so i dint know if he messed with anything more on the old pump.

before i could give fuel to the point that the rpm would ang and boost would go beyond 2 bar and still have adjustment on cold start lever...

the engine timing is ok as the pump timing(set at 1.00mm)

the engine is a JK converted to turbo with JR turbo and stuff.

can someone help me to restore my lost power and faith on this car?

some pics....

FUEL SCREW AT THE MOMENT(still can see the yellow stock marks)

THE SHAFT WONT LOWER THE IDLE MORE

I don't think it is a pump issue if the same pump worked fine before. Did the person who did the valve adjustment know what they were doing? Did the person that messed with the governor assembly replace it properly? Are you absolutely sure the timing is right? Was the timing done with the cold start pulled out? Does the car smoke now?

yes it smokes but the top power isnt that great like before.
the boost only goes to 1.6 bar...

i have thought in bad valve adjustements...
are they done in cold or warm engine?what specs i adjust to?(1.6D engine but now turbo)

the timing is ok,i have checked

it almost sounds like the internal pump pressure is too flow from fuel flow... which means the dynamic advance won't be available resulting in lots of smoke and poor performance... or am i wrong?

i don't have lots of smoke, but the performance could be better but i cant seem to get the turbo past 1.6bar...

don't know if i don't have the fuel needed or the pressure is being lost somewhere...

i have thought valves letting pressure go out

i plan on soon do a new exhaust, put EGT and governor mod but i would like to do that when this situation is solved... :x

Your pump have a too low adjustment on the idle linkage (unloaded idle spring) and too much on the stop screw of the throttle.

Also a missing idle spring.

hello

tintin, the idle spring is the one that goes in the governor assembly, the first one right?

and about the other adjustments...

the way it is is the way that i can get the idle down the most.
how can i adjust this to a good working form and still have the idle down?
because if i cant seem to raise the fuel enough for the engine to ang the rpm(like before i could)doing that i would need to decrease the fuel even more...

do you have any pics examplifying what is the right configuration on the linkages?

edit:with stock fueling and linkage the problems on idle go away but i dont want to drive stock...

at idle if i press the accelarator i will smoke like before so i think the boost issue isnt being caused by less fuel...

does anyone know what is the clearances for the valve adjustment?

being the engine a diesel and not turbo diesel differs on the values of adjustments?
