1.6L Downpipe

after going to many exhaust shops and been told many times that they could not do a down pipe for my 1985 Jetta TD. i have been looking at the post and seeing a lot of you mentoning the mk3 down pipes being used. is it off of a 1.6L or a 1.9L TD? is this a direct bolt on thing for the a2? i have spent a lot of time looking at the downpipe and it does not look like it would be hard to make one my self, but what are the options for the bowl thing at the end of the downpipe? is is just a matter of moding on to work with the bigger downpipe? what is my best option?

if you're using a 1.6L's turbo, then the earlier A3 golf/jetta IDI TD downepipe is a direct bolt-on. The later IDI 1.9L's used the smaller K03 turbo, and I believe the downpipe's attach flange is wrong, though physically, the pipe would still fit under the firewall, if you were to have a correct flange welded on.
I repair, maintain and modify VW's and BMW's.
Good work done at affordable rates. Welding and fabricating, too.

I'm using a Late A3 downpipe (97)  the top two holes on the flange line up perfectly ,however the bottom ones are way off and the flange is bigger ,All I did was cut the excess flange off and drilled two new holes in it , I just had to bend the support upwards slightly to bolt onto the pipe after.Thats making due with It ,beacuse its used and FREE :D . The earlyer pipe is ideal though, The two pipes are different beacuse of the different turbos, BTW does anyone know if the early A3's used the k24 or what,thanks.

my early A3 (93) is garrett T25 I believe. but I am in the UK so my spec might be different to the US spec.
