I removed the head from a 1.6 na that I got form a junk yard and after I timed it I tried to turn with a wrench and it stops on the #3 cyl. I pulled the head and the exhaust valves are contacting the pistons in all 4 cyls. The head gasket has 4 notches. I tried to turn the cam by hand and it also stops at the #3 exhaust valve and I cant turn past, Is this a bent valve? Is there a gasket that is thicker than a 4 notch? Does anyone have a good 1.6 na head that they can part with?
Did you bother to check the valve shim clearance? If the shims are too thick, then the valves will open too much and hit the pistons.
But, as you say, you pulled the head off, and it still binds. Sounds like some bent or stuck valves.
I have not checked shim thickness.I will probably have to send it to a head shop and have it shimed and replace the valve. does anyone know what a new exhaust valve might cost?
ive got a 1.6 mechanical head
infact its still on the block, £10 if you want it
duno any history, it came from a reputable scrap yard with belts on, just had it for the injectors, should be in working order just needs a clean up, was about to weigh it in.
Assuming the timing is correct and the proper valve adjusting shim is being used, head gasket thick should not be an issue.
Most likely the valve adjusting shim is too thick!
