1Z tdi engine conversion into mk2 golf, need some help
« on: January 13, 2008, 11:07:40 am »
hi there
i have just fitted a 1Z 1.9 tdi engine out of a mk3 golf into my mk2,
but cant remember which way round the boost pressure pipework goes
(the black, blue and red pipes coming off the turbo etc)
the above pipes go to a couple of solenoid looking things which some of the pipes were removed when i purcahsed the mk3 donor car.

i also need to find out what the two electrical plugs for the solenoids do, as they were not wired up in the mk3,

if anyone can help me figure out what pipe goes where, or if anyone local to enfield in north london has a mk3 golf with a 1z engine whic i can look at, i would very much appreciate it,

thanks

Alright mate - I have a MK 3 1z that is going to be going into a MK2 GTi in the near future - at the moment it is in untouched virgin condition. Can you take any pics and email them to me of the offending pipework and Ill have a look under the bonnet to see where they should go and either photo or email back. Also did you run into any problems that you would want to share with the install? Do you plan on modding the engine at all? If you're after an upgraded turbo drop me a line...

hi there, thanks for your reply,
i managed to figure out what pipe goes where,

(one goes to the, one the the air box, and the smaller one to the vacume pipe)

but not sure what to do with the two plugs for the solenoids in question, i tried giving them both an ignition live and earth, but this did not work, as the car would not rev over 2000rpm.  once i unplugged the wiring the rev's went back to normal, so need to find out where these two plugs go.

as for the engine conversion, everything was quite straight forward, apart from adapting the mk3 exhaust eystem to a mk2 using a mk2 back bow, i ended up cutting the mounting brackets off the mk2 system and welding them to the mk3 system,
i had alot more head ache with the wiring though, as i fitted a mk4 dash (what a pain in the ass :?

Next time im back at my mum and dads (where the car is currently sleeping) Ill try to remember to have a look at the solonoids and get the wiring info.
I am embarking on the MK2 GTDi soon - wish me luck!

thanks mate, and good luck

all you need to get the engine running is an ignition live to the diesel pump solenoid and the glow plugs. for some reason mine starts up fine without the glow plugs, but will have to wire them up in the future, as i couldnt find where the relay was on the mk3 donor car

Dub fatha - you really ought to call your engine an mTDI. Because it's running the AAZ pump it's no longer a stock 1Z, therefore any questions and answers based you ask about a 1Z will probably be irrelevant, as you're discovering in your other threads.

Wiring up a 1Z is far far more complicated than putting power to the IP solenoid

The two solenoids are not being used by your current setup as there is no ecu to drive them.

hi

your not wrong there, thanks for the info, i guess if i wanted to use the 1Z ecu etc i would have to change the pump too
oh crap :?
