which nozzle: DNOSD 274 (GTD) or DNOSD 261 (MB)?
« on: January 08, 2008, 04:32:03 am »
which nozzle is better for IDI engine with some performance mods: stock GTD 274 or Mercedes 261, and why? Any other nozzles?

some people says that it MB nozzles aren't any better than stock VW and have spraying designed for different head, is it true?

Mercedes uses a precombustion chamber while VW is more of a swirl chamber. MB has the fuel striking a ball to completely atomize.

I have the GTD nozzles in my 1.6.  If you feed them more fuel, they are better than the stock nozzles.

I haven't heard anyone saying that the Mercedes nozzles work good, or even have compared the Mercedes nozzles to the GTD nozzles.

In summary:

GTD nozzles work

Dave @ PP is running Merc on his Frankin engine I believe.

I know he has said he has seen a good increase in power with the Merc tips.

merc 261 nozzle are around 0.10mm bigger than the GTD one and have a different spray.

I install some of these, and Im not sure if It's good,  for sure that give more power, but with much more smoke.

no, It's not from esi, It's from another source that I does not know if it's credible, except that I measured myself with the means which I have, and that seems plausible.

I'm referring to a definitive source of the parameters of the DNO series of nozzles... DNO SD XXX... in terms of flow, etc.

I don't have MB nozzles in currently, just stock 1.6td nozzles, I am upgrading to the custom set of nozzles that Jake had made a couple years back that were originally intended for Mark's franken engine. I will upgrade the nozzles sometime in the next month or so. But yes the MB nozzles do give more power, and more smoke. I compared the spray patters of both on my pop tester and honestly the shape is damn near the same in the first inch and  half, which is all that matters for our eninges, at least thats how I remember it, that was about 2-3 years ago :?:

The end of the merc nozzle pintle are a different shape than the GTD one, I does not remember exactly wich It's different, but one have a more angle design and the end is more short, It's sure that change the spray.
