people were telling me that they would never even run the turbo motor down the street without knowing EGT on every gear

I guess if you have that intercooler things are safer but arent you totaly worried your doing damage?

a head gasket's no big deal provided that there isnt any valve, ring, piston and cylinder wall problem

Im dieing to turbo my car but im sure to ruin it before I even get to make the most of it without knowing my egt first...

that's an amazing front mount set up, damn nice work man!
you've made me totaly motivated to go out to the garage
cheers

Ben you need to clean that up. I hate to see salt spray all over sam and i's beautiful work. And why is the intercooler so shiny that has to be killin sam. I found the radiator paint i think it'll be good on the cooler. We need to use a VW emblem to stencil on it.

Baselyne: We tuned to very little smoke. So i feel comfortable with the EGT's we haven't turned it up much yet. And i won't till he gets the free EGT gauge i gave him installed pre turbo. same with the boost. The pump came from an NA with the alltitude compensation thing goin on. So it wasn't fueling much to start with. I still think it needs some tunning to fully use the LDA.

you can just monitor the amount of smoke coming out the rear of the car.  not as accurate but works!  i would not hesitate to increase fueling with an intercooler though.  i've seen it done before without a pyrometer, and the car was REALLY peppy running 20 psi boost, and little if any smoke.  if you want to run a motor that was never built to withstand turbo heat and pressure, then an egt gauge might be a good idea, and to be a little bit conservative with fueling.  3" exhaust really helps with keeping egt's down too.

i think most people on here warn people that they can potentially destroy their engines because not many people really keep an eye on things like smoke/engine temps/oil level/consumption.  increasing boost WILL increase oil consumption unless you have brand new rings all seated or even total seal rings.  adding more fuel WILL increase temps all around so if you had a cooling problem before, you will have an even bigger one after.  and if you're too busy racing the guy next to you and give it full pedal travel and don't watch your rear while its smoking like a train, then you'll have some nice burnt valves and pistons.  my pistons are semi-burnt at the edges      but the car still runs okay..    because when i bought the car the guy must have messed with the fueling... it went pretty quick! but there was soooo much smoke out the rear.  needless to say i'm more conservative with my 'smoking'

Tom,

Sam took one of the splash guards out and thats why it is getting crap in there and i dont know where it came from exactly or how to put it back in so i will do that when i come home this weekend.  The LDA definitely has a n effect on power.  the boost line came out and it ran like a dog till i put it back in so it is a good thing.  i will see what i can do about tapping that exhaust manifold, i dont think it will be that hard except for the electrical part?  it doesnt smoke very much either, even if i beat on it, but it needs more boost for sure.  i got the parts for the boost controller and it should be good.  thanks for the compliments everyone, they should all go to Mr. Thomas Barnhart and my bro Samuel Spencer.
