I don't know if the aftermarket ones would work. It would depend on where they get their signal from

On another note I have a couple stock ones for sale.

Would that be the whole instrument cluster? I'm interested, how much?

Greenbert ,
welcome you should go back to your profile and add your locaton! it helps when lining up parts that are close to you! and helps pindown the parts that will work best also! they differ from country to states and europe in your case miles to kilometers?

kmph to mph

I'm selling complete clusters for $80 shipped. They are untested though. I'm 90% sure that one is from my old car and it worked flawlessly

greenbert,

Easiest option it to get a Canadian tach cluster and be done with it. Tyler sent me one a while back I swapped the MPH speedo into it and it plugged right into the 91 Eco harness.

Outside of having to tighten my alt belt, it worked great.

www.tinytach.com has digital ones, but a stock one would be better.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

second party tachs
« Reply #11 on: January 25, 2008, 01:03:54 am »
I purchased a second party tach that reads the W terminal - the largish 3" dial is being difficult to locate - I may try the tiny-tach part.
If you are looking for similar tachs to what I have, they are used for diesel powered boats.

Thanks,

Allen

Hey  Tyler,

Just wondering if you have any more leads on the stock clusters w/diesel tach for Mk II's (I have a 92 Jetta ECO).  I'd love to swap my clock for a tach!

Thanks,

Steve

Hey if anyone at all knows anything at all about the conversion you have to do (some kind of converter?) to make an "after market" (i say that in quotes because the one i got is absolute crap but still 60$!) tach work on an mk2 diesel?
PLEASE   pm me if you know anything at all im fed up with trying to get the stupid "w" mark on my alternator to give me anything but eratic surges

I have a pretty extensive collection of information on making a gas engine tachometer work on a diesel:
