Awesome work! I'll be interested to see how your Capri pans out (on a VW forum...strange
). Did you too find rot where the bulkhead meets the front wings? I know I did....
Cheers,
Tom
the only thing that bothers me on this engine is the exhaust manifold... the rear cyl is going to get cooked if you let EGT's get too high... i've seen it on a 2.4D where that cyl had like 60 psi compression, and the cyl at the front had about 360 psi... i guess if you're running it stock then it should be okay though.
Cool project, my first car was a mk1 Capri 2000GT
Do have the car running yet?
I´m planning to convert a Scirocco GTI -77 to a diesel...
prothe : nop the car ran a normal carburator with a plunger pump on the old petrol engine block. All I had to do was to add a return, which i did by acetylene welding on the fuel gauge sender unit (did not do welding personally due to very thin metal but left that to a pro).
jtanguay : I share your concern re. manifold however that seems to be the only factory made one that fits! (off a non intercooled sierra 1.8 td). All other manifolds i tried had the turbo facing to the rear and would hit the bulkhead. Mods wise it has a tuned AAZ injector pump and a modified 2.5 turbo, however the intercooler is quite large. Shamefully i admitt that i do not have an egt gauge but will be nagging my brother to be fitting one soon.
TomB : Car had plenty of rust esp under front wings, around shock turrets, fuel tank (replaced for safety) and door sills... a pannelbeater fixed it up as a favour and took 2 years to do so lol
nokivasara : running on and off ... still having interior being done as well as loads of internal body modifications being done by someone who works about 10 hours a week on it lol but on weekends we put a seat in, put the plates off one of our other cars and drive it all day long. No complaints till now.
I know this is a way old thread but nice work with the capri donGTI , I am building a Anglia with sierra td engine , is the aaz pump a direct replacement for the ford one, what did you use for a clutch with all the extra power
I can't wait to see the final result of a restauration! The body looks really badass! Jealous inside...
