The Search function is close to useless! LDA Q
« on: December 26, 2007, 05:53:10 pm »
Hi, am I the only person who finds the search function useless? it's really pathetic. It would be awesome if we could get a google search function on this site.  It would keep useless questions like this one out of the forums, and speed the learning process. venting aside,, I was wondering if the LDA and upper cover assembly from a 1.6TD pump would fit onto the top of a N/A 1.6 pump and allow for the pump to increase fuel under boost. If this is possible, is there any difference between the pumps internally?(head size, psi output, dependability, longevity, fueling capability).  I am converting to FI and would like not to remove the pump if possible. thanks in advance

it can be done, but isn't really a simple deal.  if you're going to attempt it, make sure the area is clean.  any and i mean ANY dirt in there could spell disaster for the pump.

i am curious as to your converting to FI as well... do you mean gasser? all diesels are FI, the differences being direct injection, and indirect injection. unless you meant something else...

I did it to a 1.5 pump.

I promptly sent it to a rebuilder directly after to get all the seals changed. After all, it is a 1.5 pump.

At a bear minimum, get the throttle shaft seal.  I took apart about six pumps to find one with out gunked up or rusted internals, and that throttle shaft seal can get rock hard, and its really tough to push it back through the cover.

Also, look at the top of the throttle shaft, there is a scribe mark on it.  Make sure its pointing in the same direction when you put it back togather.

so it looks like it is possible, but I would also like to know if a TD pump will work on a non-turbo engine without modification, anyone know?
