Well guys and gals I hope I didn't get you to excited with the title of this post since this is my first. But I've been hanging around on this site for a few weeks now as a guest just trying to soak in all this info you have. I admit sometimes I was overwhelmed but found my way through. I now pose you this......

my first car was a 1990 VW Golf Wolfsburg ED. A 8v gas job and I loved it. well now with the price of gas, and the fact that I will definately be over the miles on my jeep lease; if I keep driving it the way i do i want another car.

I would like either a 85-92 Golf, GTI, or Jetta. Diesel obviously. I want to be able to drive it on the road, and take it to the test n tune race night and not be laughed at. say high 13's

So if you had $5000 to spend (not including the cost of the car) what car would you buy and what would your upgrades be. say your going to upgrade the car in stages over the course of a year. here's the kicker. you have a very small garage. only simple hand tools. no mechanical background but can follow a manual if you had one. any special tools, welding or high difficulty mechanical work will have to be out sourced. so have at it everyone. spend my $$$!!!

i think you would want to talk to hillfolk'r

he's got a kick ass rabbit that i'm sure is pulling low 13's and beat an '06 GTI (video is/was on youtube)

if you can find a nice TDI engine you're set.  you can still pull 13's with an IDI, but its quite a bit harder.  the biggest expenses will be the engine, turbo, and injection pump.

since my turbo swap(bigger)
my et has gone up .1-.2 (bad) for  low 14s
,and so has the speed+3-4mph  (good) 99mph consistantly now
anywhere from a 2.3 to a 2.5 second 60 foot
lack of traction is to blame
ill get some tires someday, and if i get it done for summer it should do 13s  with the work im doin now over the winter
13's are gonna be easier in a mk1 though
smoke em if ya got em

i use the hitch to drag trees out of a spot of land im clearing out
the old bunny is just as versatile as a john deere tractor
but i will admit that it can be interesting to maneuver with a 4 puck clutch and steel toe workboots :)
Throttle cables ftw
