return lines leaking...
« on: March 22, 2005, 09:34:58 am »
hello, got a little problem with my 1.6TD.  I replaced the pump and now all the return lines leak.  I put all new return lines on when I did the pump so I know they are good.  The only thing I can think of is that the return line to the tank might be plugged up so I was going to replace it, but before I spent the money I thought I'd ask on here if anyone has any ideas of anything else it could be?

Remove the gas cap, remove the big return line from the pump and blow in it. You should be able to hear bubbles in the fuel tank. If so, then blow in one of the small return lines at the injector to make sure your return line banjo fitting is clear at the pump. I have seen a small piece of rubber hose come loose inside thye small hose and plug the banjo fitting at the pump and cause this problem.

Did you use a razor knife to remove the old lines? If so, did you score the barbs that the lines fit over on the injectors and pump return? Even a tiny scratch will alow fuel to leak past the barb.

no I just pulled them off.  They weren't very tight.

i was thinking of using small tie wraps and just pulling them tight.  Might try that tomorrow actually.
