Well its legal, time for more power
« on: March 21, 2005, 07:51:04 pm »
All,
Thankfully, I was able to wrap up my 1.6TD (Engine code 1V) swap into my Samurai over the last couple of weeks, and get it tagged.  Im happy to say that I've been getting around 30mpg while running 32" tires.  Also, the smiles and looks I get from people were well worth the endeavor.
With that being said, the power falls on its face doing anything over 50mph.  Im going to turn up the fuel screw abit, but as I understand it I am limited due to the fact that my pump does not have an LDA.  Would I be able to transplant one onto my pump (preferred as my pump is in good shape), or do I have to get a whole new TD pump ?
All of you seem to be complete geniuses when it comes to injection pumps.  How did you all gain this knowledge ?  I've been trying to find books on the VE series, but the only one I found was out of print.  I'd love to mess with the innards and follow your recommendations - but truthfully I have no idea what I'd be looking at.

Thanks,
  Steve

Giles or one of our other pump specitalists. As for knowledge everything I know about VW diesels is from here tdi club, or just pulling it apart and looking at it and tinkering with it. The old Hostboard has lots of good info too.
