Changed clusters...speedo WAY off.

Anyone familiar with this: Changed out my CE2 cluster for one with a tach. Works great. Although I have been secretly suspicious of erroneous speed readings. Today my GPS confirmed that my speedo is wayyyyy out. Indicated 120 km/h is actually 103.66 according to the GPS. 100 km/h is really 84.01 km/h. About 15km/h out. No change in tire/wheel (175/70/13) etc. There's no way my clutch is slipping THAT bad, I'd smell it by now   Wondering if these clusters also had a different speedo gear in the tranny?

Yes! There are a few variants of speedo gear in mk2s. There is usually a sticker on the back of the cluster or the speedo mech itself with a 4 digit code. This is the ratio of the speedo, and its important to make sure that it matches the transmission.

The easiest thing to do would be to swap the speedo mech over from your old cluster.

Hmmm. Nothing on the back of the old cluster except "SAE e".  However, on the bottom part number sticker there is:
191 919 033NK
abd right underneath that:
271189 KONTROLLE 0965 PLA12 12T

I take it the 0965 is the number I'm looking for?
And where can I get these speedo gears other than the pick-n-pull?

Cheers,
