Hey gang,
Ok, my long term dream with my Caddy is to put in a TDI motor. I think I know of one that I can get at a reasonable price with the swap started. The motor is in the car. The mounts are done, the wiring is yet to be done.
My question is, how much of a true pain is this? I know the Pre-99 TDI's (MK3/B4) are easier as they don't have the immobilizer issues that the MK4/B5.5 TDIs have. What I want to know is what all is there that would really be hard to solve.
I have the tools, the time, the skills, the possible financial backing, and the patience, not to mention a VAG-COM that will help out in the work.
Thanks,
Mikey
well you need the engine, computer, alot of the wiring, ignition (i think), and the instrument cluster. all of these must come from the exact same car

I thought that was for the Immobilizer-II cars like the MkIV and B5.5's??!?!

oops, i thought thay was what you were asking for

It has been done, and it's a very challenging swap if you want to do it right, with ECU control, drive-by-wire and original TDI transaxle (cable shift).
DIESEL DAZZLER, who is the mastermind behind the TDI Caddy in the above link, is the person to talk to.
If you're running a TDI with mechanical pump, it's soimewhat simpler, but will still involve custom fabrication of mounts, etc.
I would do it mechanical injection pump its a bolt in then put the A1 motor mounts on the early tdi engien up to 98 ie from 98 jetta or 96-97 passat..and use mechanical injection..much much easier then full wiring..im doing this and using a wide ratio 020 tranny im building with quaifew and 367 final drive..not sure what th eabove posteder was refering to with custom mounts?..made for the tdi tranny into a1..
Thanks
