Electrical Issues I think????
« on: December 15, 2007, 04:29:26 pm »
Ok, just switched out my cluster with one that has a tach. Everything seemed great, it was plug and go. Two days later I'm driving down the road and the alternator light comes on, then the tach starts going crazy, then the temp gauge starts rising, and overheat light comes on. I turn off the car immediately, pull over and pop the hood. The radiator fan is not even running. I drive it home, figuring if it started to do it again i'd pull over before it overheated. Not a peep, alt light out, tach working fine and car temp gauge in normal place. I'm stumped. It was raining. Could the water have cause a short that affected the w terminal wire?

Any suggestions? I just rebuilt the motor and don't want to hurt it. It has been running great.

thanks 8)

i unplugged the blue wire from the w terminal. It looked pretty corroded. I cleaned it up and put it back on if it does it again, i'll try try the connector.

How hard was it raining? A know fact of these little cars is that the drive belt is the second lowest thing in the engine bay. Belt gets wet, starts to slip, Alt light comes on, ..............

Belt "dries" out, stops slipping, Joy is had by all, again.

4WheelCrawler, or such has a "Cheep Trick" for that involving mud flaps or similer material.
