ok I want 15 sec in the 1/4
« on: March 20, 2005, 08:54:02 am »
Well so far I have reached 16.74 @ 84 mph And i want like a 15.9 . When i made my 16.7 pass my mods were 626 intercooler with fairly short tubing, also screwed around with the boost pin so it move to its full potential, the govenor mod (3/4 of  its full potential), the fuel screw cranked up pretty good and turbo running at 23 psi. also that was with 1 7/8 exhaust.

Ok since then I have taken apart the governor (AGAIN!) and have molestered it to its full potential    I have noticed a harder pull up around 5 and I am doing some nice intercooling mods. I would like to make an exhaust dump valve and time the pump. Do you think i can make it into the 15's? also when i ran 16.7 i was running stock 13 inche wheels with stock size rubber. I now have 14's but i think i should run 13's so it spins off the light.

I don't really have any tips for you, but I love reading this stuff.  Do you mind telling me what engine you have?  1.6?, 1.9?  What other mods have you done so far?  I did see a post here recently about a guy that modifies cams for better performance.  Have you done that?  Have you ported the head?

You might lose on the hole shot with the 13's because of the spinning, but you'l probably more than make it up over the quarter. What tranny are you running?

Stock size rubber like 175/70R13? or 155/80R13?

Going to a wider 13" tire will get you some grip. You can go 185/60R13 on 5" wide wheels (check my sig if you want some light 5x13 wheels), or 205/60R13 or some (but not all) 215/50R13 tires will fit on 5.5x13 wheels (VW tarantulas or some other VW wheels). Most 215/50R13's require 6x13 whieels. The wider rubber will help with grip and keep you from spinning the wheels. Lighter wheels will help your acceleration and quarter mile times, too.

Weight reduction, weight reduction, weight reduction beyond that. And maybe a little bigger on the exhaust. It sounds like your engine mods and tuning are pretty much right on. You might try a bit more timing advance, but be careful and run some test runs as you adjust.

1986 jetta absoloutley no weight reduction it even has the big wolfsberg seats in it!the mods that i have listed are the only things i have done and have made no majour engine component mods. This is all hte stuff from the D.I.Y section and a little help from Dr. D. In the futur possibly a TTD but i dont know. I was running the 175 70 r13. But the trick is with a small engine and not CRAP LOADS of power to get the wheels spinning so you can get load on the engine thus equals Faster spooling   I am afraid with my 175 65 r14 that i am just going to bog the engine and actually be slower at the track. I think im going to bring both sets and try. I will keep you Guys/ Gals posted. Also I was wondering if anyone around the toronto or hamilton are or even farther if you are willing to drive, get together at Toronto Motorsports Dragway (when it opens) I usually go on fast and the furious fridays and go stomp some rice. Its the cheapest day to race and you can do as many passes as you want to or can do.

Anyways nice to see some respone.

hey,
i ran a 15.9 in my rabbit with those same scirocco wheels. i was running 18psi boost going through a audi 5k intercooler and some minor governor mods so it would just start tapering off fuel at the redline. well one other thing i had was weight reduction. only my drivers seat, i even took off the aluminum bumpers lol. i had just enough fuel in my take to make it there, race, and make it back to a gas station.

this summer im goin for a 15.5 at least,

another little tip is go with the wider tire, but just drive through the burnout box, so theres water on the tires at the staging lights. then it wont bog down, but it wont spin through the whole first gear either. thats just what i find to work.

for rotating mass, those scirocco wheels with the 175 70 r13 tires are the lightes setup you can practically get for your car.

also whats an exhaust dump valve?

hope this helps,

Mark

why not try bigger injectors? you can also lower your boost levels a bit with bigger injectors. and at least 2 1/4 exhaust that 1 7/8 is a potato up your turbo.

i am going to try dnosd 308 injectors in my 86 jetta td auto (3 speed from a 86 golf) but right now i have dnosd 298 from a mercedes in it i am using the govoner springs out of a 1980 1.5na, played with timing and fueling screw, advanced cam timing, 3" exhaust k24/26 homebuilt hybred turbo and home made mitsubishi air to water intercooler. no weight reduction i have power wndo/doorlooks/heated seats. and i am running my fastest run 14.963 at 93.5 mph  my average runs on warm to hot days with 14' 195 55 14 tires is 15.2 at 88mph.  i also have almost no smoke (auto=boost all the time)20 psi boost i am

Exhaust dump valve is a bg valve near the front of the exhaust when opened   = straight open exhaust then when your done close the valve and your back to stock. There is a rabbit turbo diesel down the street wonder if he will sell it to me? I have a video of my car going at night time its posted on pocket idiot.

If you dont like seeing people speed do not whatch these. If you are going to come on here and preech to me it doesnt work. I do all of these on a empty road at like 3 am.
