How do you remove shifter to replace parts and spring?
« on: December 05, 2007, 11:20:07 pm »
86 golf 5-spd 1.6 n/a   I bought a shifter rebuild kit with spring and replacement parts. Is there any easy way to replace parts or do I have to unhook shifter from the bottom of the car to get the shifter apart? I have already replaced most of the linkage parts and bushings. Also is there a trick to removing the exhaust clips and putting them back on?

Thanks

Robert

Somewhere there are several posts on those wonderfull "C" clips.

I bash them off with a long punch and hammer and then get a friend to put them back on for me (costs a 6 pack and med pizza).

2" muffler clamp inverted seems to work for some folks.

I think the shifter can be disassembled in the car, maybe.
