"Trouble Shoot" the Short Circuit...
« on: December 03, 2007, 06:07:49 pm »
Hey Guys,

I've searched here and on 'vortex' and can't seem to find where my electrical short is... any help or hints would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to dubs, and don't even know where to start... My car is a MKII NA Golf.

So it started with my running lights flickering every so often (more so on bumpy roads), and making a 'buzzy/short circuit sound somewhere in the the dash. This would cease when I put the the clutch in... but only until the next bumpy section in the road.

Then it spread to my driving lights... again, the short would cease when I put the clutch in.

Now the highs beams and the heater fan... but once again I put the clutch in and it temporarily solves the problem.

I'm wondering if it is a short at a ground... but the whole 'clutch' thing has me second guessing? Any suggestions on where to look? Also, does anyone have a link for MKII ground locations?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Alex

I seem to recall reading recently about a similar problem. It had something to do with the clutch pedal inside the car bumping a wire or completing a connection, I'd start looking in and around there and see just what goes on when you are pushing the clutch in.

That sounds like a fusebox problem to me. I'm from RHD-land, but I believe that in a LHD car the clutch pedal is right next to the fusebox isn't it?

Assuming you have CE2 electrics then the main power cable is on the bottom right of the fusebox - also right next to the clutch pedal.

Definitely have a good look around that area  :)
