hi i have a 1.9L TD AAZ Golf , its getting worse and worse 2 L of oil in like 1000k (1 tank of diesel) brought it from shop to shop no one can tell me why.....motor was replaced new from VW like 3 years ago so i dont think rings or valves b/c i dont get any smoke other then the normal on start up... i can see smoke like in 1st gear or second but only when i feel the turbo kick in i can see a puff out the back end... i did turn the turbo up to 14 PSI i dont know if i just recked it?

its been running at that for 6 months now. no leaks on driveway and when i got my window alittle bit down in summer its reaks the whole car up of burnt oil..... its definatly burning it i think does anyone know what i can do or what to look for or tests i can do to check.....if seals are gone in the turbo how would i know?

turbo has 295 000 on its original i think.....please somone help.....email me what you think
try dropping your boost down to stock. I hear higher boost levels create more blow by.
What color is the smoke on startup? Ideally you shouldn't be getting any so it may be valve seals depending on the color.
It's quite possible that the turbo seals are shot. If you take of the intake hose is it dripping in oil?
ya it doesnt blow any smoke on start up just the nrmal little bit of black smoke......i am starting to lean toward the turbo now......like 2 liters is alittle excessive ...... and its just getting worse!
That much oil burning would create some blueish smoke. How clean is the engine? Clutch slipping?
motor should be clean i was told the whole motor was relaced like 5 years ago from VW 4500.00 i think he told me....clutch was just done 2 years ago////i bought it from a dealer a year ago but he showed me all thge sevice records the guy definatly took care of it but the car does have 295 000 on it motor maybe 150 000 i dont see any blueish smoke its like its beeing burnt on the exhast or soehting....valve cover has alittle swaet but nothing subsantial......if i put my hand under the turbo when its cool i definalt feel oil under there....in summer i cant have just 1 window donw a crack it creats like a vacum and sucks in that buirnt oul smel its so bad it make ya feel light headed......i notice a big consumtion after i drive on highway.....i drive l;ike 120 km/h just driving around city not to much oil smell just when i drive it hard for awhile or drive long time on highway..
If you're smelling it like that I would think it's unlikely that it's actually burning it in the combustion chambers. It would be rare that you could smell something out of your exhaust while running down the highway. Sounds more like a leak that gets worse at higher temps. Try running down a highway after dark, when up to temp and getting the oil smell, stop the car (on the shoulder of the road  ), pop the hood and use a flashlight to see if you can see smoke that may show you where the leak is. I would suspect turbo area as that would be hot enough to burn off oil fast enough that you wouldn't see a leak hitting the ground. You may have a tube, etc. that only leaks due to movement caused by expansion when everything is hot.
.....motor was replaced new from VW like 3 years ago so i dont think rings or valves b/c i dont get any smoke other then the normal on start up...
......i was told the whole motor was relaced like 5 years ago from VW....
Dont believe everything the seller tells you.
I bought it from a dealer a year ago but he showed me all thge sevice records
Did he show you the receipt from the motor install?
....no leaks on driveway.....
Well then its
definatly not leaking oil.
....and when i got my window alittle bit down in summer its reaks the whole car up of burnt oil.....
Only way that could happen is if you got an oil
leak burning on something hot but you've allready ruled that out. Or if your exhaust pipe
leaks oily exhaust and its getting into passenger compartment but you've ruled that out because oily exhaust would make smoke.
....so i dont think rings or valves...
Of course its not that because thats expensive.
.....if seals are gone in the turbo how would i know?
If oil was leaking into intake side it the engine would runaway which you haven't mentioned.
If oil was leaking into exhaust it would smoke, but once again you've allready ruled that out. Of course there's always exceptions.
Putting your hand under the turbo, cracking a window and smelling oil, and big oil consumption on highway is not really information anyone could use to help you diagnose your problem.
Do a compression test. Make sure there are no oil leaks. If your turbo has that high of mileage pull the intake tube and check for movement in the shaft. If its loose have it rebuilt/replaced.
With that much oil burning I would be looking for a broken oil ring or two or even a sloppy one. Might not show up on a compression test but should be evident with a leakdown test. Find a good mechanic to do this for you. You never know if the engine has been overheated or not so it is possible. The VW oil rings have hardly any tension on them when new , if overheated they can become really loose. Do some tests to rule this out so you can move on to other possibilities. Cheers Dan
what is your driving style like? i can burn 2 litres of oil no sweat   or i can burn 1/2 a litre.
even with a little bit of ring gap, the extra pressure from the turbo will most certainly help push oil past the rings and into the combustion chamber where it will be burnt or sent through the exhaust.
you will notice much less oil burning if you switch to synthetic. most people say it leaks because its thinner, but you just need to know how to drive with it (let it warm up before you beat on it... this lets the additive packages do their job). a really good synthetic will have special additive packages to help stop oil leaks and burning.
what kind of oil are you running? i've ran some pretty crappy oil in the past when i first got my diesel... took it on the highway and she ran really good and strong! easily kept up with fast traffic. when i got home i checked the oil... it was a little below the lowest mark on the dipstick  and it was at full when i left... the trip was around 80km. thats a litre in 80 km. do the math and you'll know how easy it is to burn fuel... uh i mean oil  hey maybe that is why my car was running so strong!
