Valve adjusting
« on: November 30, 2007, 10:30:26 am »
So I just bought a really nice 86' Golf 1.6. It has a sticker on the valve cover that says "valve adjustment every 15,000 miles (24,140km)". I have never done a valve adjustment and I am about to order the "special tools" to practice on my Rabbit that I am rebuilding. Could someone give me some info on the how to? I read my manual and it was pretty straight foward, but I just don't know what to do with the shims. Do you replace them or just "adjust" them?

yeah you gotta replace them. There's places all over the internet that you can get them from. If you have the right ones laying around you can do that, they don't have to be new. Don't get 'em from napa though they cost way to much. Have fun!
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
