Oil - Delo 15W40 - Really that big of a no no?

I was just reading through some posts and read that Delo 15W40 a super big no no in my 1.5L Rabbit engine.
So, now I've found out that B50 sucks in 30 to 40 deg. temp and the delo 15W40 was NOT the thing to use.
Is it correct that I should be using 5W40 or even 0W40?
Last questions, is it really that big of a probelm?

Hi, I use delo 15w-40 all the time with lucas oil stabiliser and have had no problems with it. I've never used biodiesel.
How fast have you had your A8 up to? I drove one a while back and got up to 130mph and then let off 'cause the straight stretch was ending.
Later I read that the A8 is governed to 130mph.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.
I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Any other input of the oil?
I don't drive fast in the A8L. It's just a slow roller around town on the weekends and at night.
So, the fastest in the Audi was probably 80 MPH.
Or...When my damn Rabbit doesn't start.

I don't see the need to run a really thick oil like that myself, I would use a 5w40 unless the engine is getting worn out and you can't get the mechanical side of things refreshed.
Anecdote: Cousin living in TO had a slightly weak starter and couldn't get the car (1.9TD Jetta III) started without plugging it in. I suggested oil that would not be like tar at -25C (0w40 Rotella TSB synthetic) and he could start with no issues, not being plugged in
Would I run in the sahara desert with that oil? No. I did use it year round in my TDI with no oil consumption on 8-10k intervals.

I might as well just got get some lighter weight oil and do another change.
I'm pretty sure the engine has some miles on it, but I don't think it's to worn.
I think...
PO put a 1.5L in it, so I have no clue on the mileage.

Just make sure it is rated for Diesels. I was running 15w40 in my AAZ, but so far I haven't ever driven in the cold as my car is always out of commission for one reason or another in the winter. I was going to switch to a thinner oil if I had any problems though.

It is diesel engine oil.
I had crappy battery cables so that was an issue as well.

Nice!
So, it sounds like it's not necessary to do an oil change right now.

Where do you live?
I only run 0W40 or 0W30 in my diesel in the winter. It's so much happier

I live in Portland, Oregon.
When it gets cold (Not even really that cold), it's only for a month, if that.
Our low for the year is probably 28 deg. and thats for a day or two.
The rest of the cold days is in the 30s.

I've run Delvac 1300 year round so far. It's so thick it gives the worn engine enough compression to start in the winter.

I've always run 15W40 (various brands) in my old '81 and current '82 diesel. Works fine year round where I live. Might get down close to freezing a few days a year. No problem starting. Might use something thinner if it got colder.
