Starting Issues - a new one
« on: November 27, 2007, 11:36:21 pm »
i think i've got a glow plug or 2 that needs replacing, but this puzzles me.  Starting when it's cold it'll crank a couple times then fire up no problem, but with some smoke and chugging for a few seconds, sounds like glow plugs to me.  I drive the car for a bit and it warms up, i park it for a few minutes then start it again and it has to be cranked longer, takes about 6 -8 cranks to start when warm, why would this be?

Mine does this sometimes as well.

Would be interesting to hear some ideas of what it might be.

Sounds like air leaks in the fuel lines.

I figured mine out.

Old crappy batter cables and power cables for the glow plugs.

My glow plugs actually work correctly and the car turns over quite fast.

The car starts better than ever.

Sounds like your starter is not turning enough once it warms up. Check for voltage drops in the wires and if possible test the draw that the starter is creating or have it bench tested.

It could also be a faulty GO relay or GP temp sensor

changed doesn't necessarily mean better. Is it a new unit? The cables and connections could still be causing the problem
