mercedes injectors?

anyone know if these injectors are upgrades for our 1.6's?
i saw many mercedes diesels at the junkyard today, wondering if i could grab some and have them rebuilt for an upgrade, since i need some anyways...
if so, from which models?

The injectors are not an upgrade. The body is exactly the same, it is the nozzle inside that is different.
The Mercedes nozzles will not work well. They are designed for a prechamber with a ball atomizer not the open swirl chamber VW uses.

That's funny. Dave from PP says they work and are quite an imporvement over stockers.

Either case, buying used Mercedes injectors is not economical. The chances of getting even one out of five that sprays decently and does not dribble is very slim. The average driver does not understand that they are maintenance items and as a result will never touch them for the entire life of the engine.
It would be best to simply buy the # nozzle you want and upgrade your existing VW injector bodies. The only difference in the injector body is the VW/Audi rings and Mercedes star stamps.
I am actually upgrading my Mercedes with VW AAZ 2-stage injectors. The only thing I have to change in them is the nozzles as they will destroy glowplugs from the different spray pattern with the stock #308 nozzles.

Interesting.
Are you planning AAZ injector bodies with Mercedes nozzles ??
The single stage KCA-style injector has some documentation scatted on the web but I've never found anything for the AAZ-style... just wondering what you've discovered in your travels ??

Yes, I'll be using #265 or #297 nozzles inside the AAZ injectors. I've been communicating with a Mercedes owner in Germany that has been using them in his 300SD. He reports easier starting, smoother/quieter idle and ~5% more top end power.
They were used in the 1993-1996 Canadian-only Golf, Jetta and Passat with the non-TDI 1.9L TD (AAZ).
This is kind of badly worded, but it is the best description I have yet to find on its operation.
A fuel injection nozzle is provided with a pressure actuated injection valve with a first spring and a second spring operatively associated therewith to permit two stage opening of the injection valve, these spring also controlling opening movement of a valve during the injection cycle in the mid to higher speed range of engine operation to allow pressurized fuel to act on the stem end of the injection valve to effect its closure at a higher valve closing pressure than the valve closing pressure from idle to a predetermined mid-speed range of engine operation.

The 297 is a larger nozzle no?

I don't know yet. I'm still trying to dig up information on the different nozzle numbers. Bosch is tight-lipped about their injection parts and you basically have to be an injection shop owner to get any Bosch-made literature other than very basic training. Shops won't give out or sell books because it costs them big bucks for a replacement.
All I have found so far is the application for them but nothing on specific spray pattern or flow capacity. The reason I'm choosing between #265 and 297 is they were used in the Mercedes OM603, won't eat glowplugs like the 308 and are far better than the #240/ used in the OM617.

Right now rod bolts and injector tips are the only thing holding me back from finishing my engine.

For 1.6td's I use the mercedes 300d td nozzles, but as with all nozzles you should use brand new units and have them properly pop tested. I've had both the mercedes units and the 1.6td units on my pop tester to check the spray pattern and the spray pattern is not different enough to ruin your gp's.
