Assuming all is in good order what oil pressure does a 1.6 eco make?

VDO make 80, 100 and 150 lbs per sq' gauges and I want to chose the right one

i have a 0-100 psi gauge, when the car is first started in the morning when the oils really thick the pressure goes all the way to 100 sometimes haha, but its never pinned so 0-100 is more then enough. Once the oils warmed up and more liquid im seeing about 35psi cruising around and about 20-25 at idle.

I've got a 0-5 bar sender and gauge.... (into the head, not the oil filter flange...via a g60 corrado oil fitting to clear the turbo oil line).

it too pegs at the start... and will only see maybe 2.5-3 bar when it's put to the wood. and maybe ~1-1.5 bar at idle

My personal preference is to:

- use a 5 bar (80 psi) gauge and
- mount the sender on the head

This way I get the oil pressure at its worst... and have the best gauge resolution when the oil is hot. Let 'er pin when cold... I want to know what it's doing in stop-and-go traffic in the summer.

Thanks for the replies.

There is a sender mounted on the oil filter flange and another on the very end of the cylinder head (drivers side)

Are these both oil pressure? and if so why two?

VWs use a dynamic oil pressure... a low pressure switch on the head that the car listens to below 2000 RPM, and a high pressure switch on the flange that the car listens to above 2000 RPM.

The point being... 10 psi is fine at idle, but if it happens on the highway you only have seconds to pull over.

Do a search for it in this forum and you will find the answer, but I will give you a brief run down.

There are two sensors, one for over about 2,000 RPMs and one for under. The head sensor is under, and the oil filter sensor for over. This way, the sensors can know if there is enough oil pressure while the engine is idling and running hard down the road.
