putting an a3 tach in my a2
« on: November 18, 2007, 05:32:09 am »
The aaz swap went beautifully, now I want to make it more difficult by installing the tach from the a3 donor.  I took the cluster apart and I can see that the tach just pulls off of the circuit board, there are four pins on the back of the tach. Does anyone have the wiring diagram for this or does anyone just now which pins are which? Thanks for your help.

The pins are for the meter movement... but there is specific circuitry on the cluster board itself that drives the meter movement.

In other words, just connecting the W-terminal from the alternator to one of the meter movement pins will not work.

Are you trying to put the entire A3 cluster in your new car, or just somehow bolt in the tach part of the cluster ??

I wasn't sure if I could put the tach into my a2 cluster. I know that the a3 has pins, I wasn't sure if it was possible to wire the pins into my electrical system.
thanks
