I wonder how long until some poor criminal sues the police force for giving them cancer from the microwaves
And microwaves don't cause cancer, you'll need a much shorter wavelength to disrupt your DNA. Somewhere north of the ultraviolet spectrum, so you can take off your tinfoil helmet now...
The Russians banned Microwaves after diligent research on health hazards. Interestingly, the user's manual of my new microwave states not to open the microwave door within 15 seconds after cooking.
great idea! we are doing the same
The warning about opening the door after cooking is with regard to steam burns. The microwaves cease to emanate from the magnetron the millisecond the power shuts off. All microwave ovens sold in the america's incorporate a mandated crowbar circuit on the door. If the door is somehow forced open while the magnetron is energized, the door switch closes and shorts the power supply. This either blows the appliances internal fuse or trips the branch circuit breaker, it is not possible for the magnetron to be energized with the door open.
Also something to note, there is currently no ban on microwave ovens in the commonwealth of soviet states, it was lifted in 1986. The reasoning behind the 10 year ban was not directly related to the safety of the appliances. Russian research concluded that localized temperature extremes in a microwave oven can be somewhat detrimental to the foods nutritional value, in sort of the same way as good ol' american deep frying....
Thanks for the insight & for putting my ignorance to rest
I do believe microwaves cause cancer... just ask the guy who invented them oh wait he's dead.. from a tumour caused by CANCER
Keep in mind that Percy Spencer was 76 years old at the time of his death. I suppose his cancer could have been microwave induced but I doubt it.
People mistakenly assume that since certain wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum cause cancer then all electromagnetic waves must cause cancer. That is utter and complete nonsense. The only way to be harmed by microwaves is to be cooked by them.
well actual cancer is a whole other debate. i strongly believe that a 100% healthy liver will be able to 'deal' with the cancerous cells before they multiply out of control. so yes his age probably had a lot to do with it. the power level is also a very important key in the cancer causing debate. little power could do some damage over time, but probably very little if any. lots of power can and will do damage over time. imagine all the cells in your body exploding... some scientists did a study on microwaved/non microwaved foods and found that the stove top prepared foods had more nutrients than microwaved... sorry hungryman but the microwave destroyed all those good old nutrients!!! our bodies need nutrients to stave off cancer.
so if you want to ward off cancer for good, eat your greens! and don't nuke them!!! (also eat lots of anti-oxidant rich fruits... DNA oxidation has been found to be one of the key players in AGING, so naturally you want to get some anti DNA oxidation happening.. )
I'm stockpiling 1.6D motors as we speak. I figure I'll buy a farm, grow soybeans, and use the 1.6 IDIs as generator motors running off the sybean juice.
Then, have a fleet of diesels in the barn.
Whadya think?
Save the 1.6Ds for the cars, for power generation and water pumping you'll be better off with a Lister Engine
http://www.utterpower.com/ Run for ever, highly efficient, 0 electronics, starts by hand. George even sells a Seed Oil Press that can be Lister powered.
Tons of Info.

Truck drivers in the late 70s used to love to see a watercooled VW drive up along side, key thier mic, and watch the VW die.
What an insightful thread!
I recall hearing somewhere about the same automobile disabling system, but using some sort of device that will attach to the car?
With an antenna like that pictured. I can't see how it would have any accuracy at all. All those elements would be bouncing all over the place I'd think, aiming the pulse in who knows what direction. It would also be a great danger to anyone with a pacemaker.
