clutch cable not grabbing
« on: November 13, 2007, 12:57:37 pm »
I have the self adjusting cable on my 94 TD.  It was working before I took the tranny out.  Now that I've put the tranny back in its not working.  I used the correct holder to keep it compressed.  Any tricks to getting these crazy cables working.  Mine just won't grab, the pedal goes all the way to the floor after repeated attempts.  Cheers

I guess the lack of response means, there are no tricks, go buy yourself a new cable.  O.K.

I'd just say buy a new cable.  My rocco had an auto adjust one, took it out, was playing with it, and it popped out all the way.  Tried getting it back to normal, figured, screw it, and got a used manual adjust cable for free.

i had some problem with my clutch cable.. used to engage right at the end of clutch pedal release.  then one day it seemed as if it wasn't releasing all the way (just didn't feel right) so i adjusted my cable.

this is how i did it.  push the clutch pedal in all the way twice.  now go under the car and pull the end of the cable as much as you can, and make sure the arm goes down with it.  then release the cable (try not to let it snap back).  if everything went well your clutch should be all good.

hope that works for you! did for me (although my brother was the one pushing the clutch pedal as i was learning how to set the damn thing)
