Wanted: 1992 VW Golf trailer hitch
« on: March 10, 2005, 06:24:42 pm »
I need one to move motorcycles.  Preferrably with a removable draw bar, 2" would be even better but unlikely.

Anybody know if a Jetta hitch will fit?

Steve;
 I was just pricing things out at my friend's parts place. He couldn't find anything for our year golf/jetta. It stopped at '87, and started at '95, go figure. I'm pretty sure golf would be the same as jetta, if one is available.

Yep, nothing available from VW, Reese, HiddenHitch, or DrawTite.  I'll have to keep an eye on Ebay as well as visit the wrecker if nobody on here has anything.

This one says it's from an '85, but isn't that the same as a '92?

Thanks for checking, I was actually asking about Golf/Jetta compatability because of those auctions.  My dealer said that the Jetta hitches have longer L brackets on the ends.

I'll probably end up getting a Jetta hitch from a wrecker and have my welder adapt it.  I'd also have him weld a 2" receiver to it so I can use my current selection of hitches.

Canadian Tire doesn't have a part number anymore so finding old stock would be difficult.

If I undo the 4 bolts that are under the back of the car can I slide the entire bumper out fully assembled?  That would make it easier to measure things up.  I may just take the Class III hitch off the front of my van and have it hacked up.

Thanks, Steve
