t3/t4 turbo /w no wastegate?
« on: November 11, 2007, 01:07:03 pm »
thinking about using a 45 or 50 trim t3/t4 /w .48 housing... no wastegate... i figure the 1.6 cant overspool that turbo or boost it too high...

the no wastegate thing is just a thought, but what do you think about running a t3/t4?

anyone ever try a 45 or 50trim t3/t4?

here is a 2L crossflow /w a 50trim .48 @ 20psi

this engine makes 20psi @ 3600 rpm so i think it would be safe to say that the 1.6 would make 20psi by 4000rpm

I may have an answer for you in the near future.  I am almost done with my Garrett / Airreaserch T3 45 trim compressor/ .48A/R turbine rebuild.  I think it may be wise to keep the wastegate on mine for now.  I think my engine will be able to spool that puppy into the blown head gasket range if I let it run free :D   After I get everything broken in and adjusted, I may try some runs with the manual boost controller cranked close so I can see just how much boost it can crank out before I get scared and throttle back    I am guessing I will be able to go waaaay past 20.

I'm seeing 23 psi on my K24 with a stuck wastegate. No blown HG. I'm using the 1.9td HG though.
