Wastegate gradually open or just full open/closed?

Does the wastegate on a K24, etc. suddenly open or close at a given boost or does it gradually open over a range of boost?
2006 Jetta TDI - gtb1749v, Malone 2, Frank's Titan 2 cam, VR6 clutch....

From my understanding of how a wastegate works....and I think it is very similar if not the same for all turbos.....
as you reach the max boost setting the wastegate starts opening slowely and continues opening as the rpms go up in order to maintain the set pressure. thats my $0.02.

It opens gradually.
