Fed up with the A-holes on TDiClub

I've never posted an item for sale on the TDiClub forum, but I often read the Car Classifieds. It's like watching an old-fashioned stoning or lions on the African plains. You can't post a single thing without 20 veteran and new members pouncing on your ad, belittling your integrity, and price bashing your merchandise. It's truly pathetic.

I've often considered posting the occasional diesel that I resurrect on that forum, but NEVER will. I recommend others follow suit and avoid the den of hyenas.

amen.  most of the people there would rather just cut people up than offer helpful advice.

i find tdiclub very bulky with some posts having over 10 pages of absolute crap.  sifting through that garbage is painstaking and often i'll just close the window and watch some tv.  

this site rules!  although there seems to be quite a few newbies posting in the wrong sections, but hey nobody's perfect!  :lol:

I don't post there very often anymore. It was great when I joined in 2000 but, it's changed allot over the years as VW diesels have gotten more popular and expensive.

Most of they time it seems they are obsessive compulsive snooty purist that can't think outside the box. Lately seems most would never stoop so low and to work on their own vehicle (Note: Up to 1992 VW made cars, from 1993 on they are Vehicles :wink:  )

Back around 04 when I posted about the home made single tank WVO setup I did in my 03 TDI, you have have thought I posted pictures of myself biting the heads off of kittens and little baby chicks. Most of the posts read like I was going to be sent to TDI Hell by the TDI Gods. The best part were the responses to the effect of "OMG!! Your dealer is so going to kill you when you bring your car in... Your warranty is toast!!!"

When I posted that I rode my original timing belt to 116K it was utter sacrilege.

I was already out of warranty and I avoided the stealership like the plauge anyway.

Over the last couple years the posts seem to be from people with more money than sense and can only parrot back the BS that the service writers at the stealership feed them. Which is easy to understand, let's face it the moment someone buys a PD, the dealer has them by the jugular, they are owned.

Of course, it's all very similar to how things are on the tex, it's about owners and what they own, seems like the MkI, and MkII forums are very different than the MkIII, MkIV, MkV forums, just as the owners of the cars are different, different mentalities and attitudes. It's the demographics I guess.

so its a good tihng i never joined?  i like it here anyways, this is the single forum i am on that is actually intelligent people, topics, posts, and repectable answers and questions. And i sure learn a lot more from this forum then i do anywhere else.

I joined there before here I think but it didnt take long for me to realize that place was like hell.
Good info is little and FAR between there.

Yeah. It seems like there is little in the way of good information on Poortex, and the TDIclub are a bunch of self-righteous twats who have their noses way too far up the asses of a handful of members (Harviex for example). If anyone tries to sell anything on there for at or above Blue-Book, they pounce all over you and start bludgeoning your post claiming you're a scam artist or have your head up your arse.

I guess they are really cheap bastards and/or they do not understand how free market economics work. They take KBB with it's standard depreciation formula as bible, but ignore the high market demand that they themselves create. Any car that sells on ebay or at a dealer for more than Blue Book means someone got suckered. If that's the case, then about 98% of all TDI owners got suckered. In reality, most did. Give me a 1.6 or a 1.9 TD anyday over the BS involved in owning a TDI.

I know where to get good solid information without the condescending attitude of the Star-Bellied-Sneetches on TDIclub. I'll keep it here.

I kinda like hanging out in the swap forum, with the rest of the guys who don't give two shakes about the warranty. Who's going to warrant a TDI in a Mk2?

I am so happy to see this post.  A month or two ago I tried to input some reason into a long winded post on TDI club and quickly realized what several of you here have mentioned; there is a hardcore crowd there whose sole motivation is to argue every statement with personal degradation.  It's like a geeky diesel soap opera over there.

I have found the site useful for tracking down info on common TDI specific failures but that is about it.  The primary topics over there seem to be tuning chips, arguments on what lube oil and how often to change it and general "I'm smarter than you" threads.

Being in a diesel related business, I run into a lot of folks who spend quite a bit of time on TDI club and I am very selective about who I refer to this site.  

My thanks go out to Marc and the rest of you who have been keeping this site alive the last 5 years or so.

tdiclub was a great intro for me to diesels. Unfortunately their depth of topics is pretty narrow. Best thing I ever got from there is how to replace my clutch/flywheel and contact info for a chip tuner.

I guess I went backward from there because it was after I got my pd-tdi that I rebuilt my first ever engine (son's 1.6TD) and now I intend to let my wife have the 2006 and I want to rebuild another 1.6TD for myself! It's very addictive!

You need a good serious Mk 1, my man. It's too bad that the TDI Club has so narrow a focus. They only seem to be interested in chiptuning and wheels.

It IS "TDI" club, hence the whole ecu chipping and such.  

In the past year I would agree though, tdiclub has lost much content and has turned more into a "club" for old men to drag out long pissing contests.

I went to one of thier monthly GTG hear and met the few that showed up! and there was only one person that was abel to do thier own wrenching! and that was not including me! the rest of them all talk about who they have performing work on thier cars! my girl is a die-hard volkswagen lover! and owns a 04 TDI jetta and I consider her a novice!  because she don't do the work! now i do all the work on my caddys, and rabbits and i consider my self an enthusioust because i get personal with all that is associated with my vehicles! now would that be the difference between us and them? we have hands on experience and they gotta make something out of nothing they do on thier own cars? does that make any sence to anyone?
