« on: March 05, 2005, 05:06:23 pm »
Is it possible to swap out the ring and pinion gear from a CHE to an AWY?
Thanks

If you are looking for a 3.667:1 ring and pinion for your AWY, you should try to get one from a 1.8L 8v transmission.

The 16V transmissions (AGB/2Y) and the 2.0L ABA transmissions (AMC, CHE, DFQ) use a different 4th gear and a different pinion shaft. Your 4th gear set won't fit on the pinion shaft from the CHE. The hole in the middle of your gear is smaller than the shaft from the CHE.

But if you want to put the ring and pinion from the CHE, along with the 4th gear set and 5th gear set from the CHE into your AWY, that would work. And that would give you taller 4th and 5th gear sets, which would lower engine speed for highway driving.
