Issues after timing advance mod...

Ok,
After I took the thickest washer out on my 1.6na ('82 rabbit). I did notice that the cold start knob was much easier to pull out, and the only bit of resistance was at about the last 1" or less.  Before, the whole length that the knob comes out was resistance.  It ran like absolute *** with the washer out, so I put it back in.  Runs better now.  Not that much better, though.  Takes about 20-30 seconds of cranking to get it going, even when the engine is warm.

Last night, it drove fine, when i went to a friend's place.

This morning, I tried to start it.  Started really rough, wouldn't idle (had to hold my foot on the pedal).  I took it out on the road (to go to school), it would top out at about 50 in 3rd gear.  4th was useless; it would slow down on a flat.  Died at a stop once (another 20 sec of cranking to get it going).  Today, after school, I waited for most people to leave, so I would have a straight shot out of the parking lot, as to not have to stop (much).  I stopped at a stop sign, went to 1st, started giving it throttle, nothing.  Pedal to the floor, took it like 3 secs to get going.  Had decent power on the way home, not as great as normal, though.

It was running freaking awesome before this all.  The beginning of the crappy running began after I did the timing advance mod.

Any suggestions?  I do see air in the return line, and when I shut the car off, a bit of fuel and some air goes back to the fuel filter (I just replaced the filter, too), like there is a little vacuum there or something.

Heh, I was just out working on it.  O ring seemed about toast.  It wouldn't really stick out when placed in the little area for it.  So, I grabbed a new one.  Works fine, now.  No air in the intake line anymore (when shut off), it seems like a tiny bit of air in the return line, as my injector return lines are about toast.  One was sucking a little air from the big return line (when I moved it, there were more air bubbles).

Got that fixed.  :)

Hope all the diesel that I spilled or leaked doesn't start a fire.
