I saw two industrial engines for sale up in Maine. The title reads exactly as above. I was wondering:
1) what are the differences between the regular 1.9td and the industrial one?
2) Can i use it in a car application if i swap the pump? Or what is involved in order to do so?
They look pretty new although the seller is selling them as core. He rated them at 83hp which seems kind of high unless they are industrial TDI or something. Please enlight me and forgive my ignorance.

The industrial ones I've seen are TDI's.

Iv'e seen industrial vw turbo diesel motors in lundie fork trucks that are 2.1 or 2.3 liter. i'm sure industrial motors should be more of a higher output!
you should be able to use it!
thanks Duane

I am thinking that they might be TDI's as well since he stated that their output are 83hp. Usually, industrial engines have lower output than car application. He said that one has 23hours and the other has 10hrs, which to me sounds very low yet he is selling them as core.
If the price is right, i will buy them anyways even if they need mild rebuild because they are not far from me at all. I was about to get a 1.9td from Canada but i will hold for now until i see if i can do this deal first.

If i get them, do i only need to change the pump? Or what else will be necessary before i can use it in a car?

yeah i think the turbo pump is going in there eventually, but this pump is cool in its own way, when you go up a hill it wants to keep the same speed! its like it has a mind of its own!

Andrew,
Are you talking about making it so the pump will allow more engine rpm? the car only goes like 82 or 3 mph, and it wants to go faster after i put in a taller tranny. I think it only revs to like 3k rpm. can i make it rev more by doing what you said?

If they are TDI's, would i still need an ECU to make it run in a car? If that's the case, then i will definitely go for the mTDI setup, which is what i would want anyways.

The guy that i am buying the engines from said that engine # 1 broke the camshaft. Engine #2 was installed but had low oil pressure and made noise.
How much should i offer him the core? How serious or expensive would the damages be? I know that i would need to open them up to see the extent of the damages but are they still salvagable? i would do a rebuild regardless but wants to know how much would be a good deal for the pair. They are complete with pumps and turbos, etc...
