Cruise control swap
« on: October 21, 2007, 01:30:10 pm »
I'm wrecking a '91 Jetta, to support my '90.

I have ripped out as much as I could find, of the cruise system.

I have the actuator, column switches, the relay(for lack of a better word) and the two vac switches off the pedals, as well as the assosciated plumbing for the vac lines.

Anything I really need to know about this system, or is it a pretty basic swap over?

 Cheers
  Trev

Ok the cluster is specific for cruise and has a pickup device specifically for cruise.I'd imagine you already have found that out as the cruise control wiring conects the module behing the center console to the pickup device.Have you removed the whole wiring harness from the fuse pannel I think that the fuse is a bit different and I had to mess around with the pung as it would not fit. This is definitely not a fun swap thats for sure But I hope that your swap mand mine will work in the end

I swaped the cruise pick up rarther than the whole cluster you just have to break a peice of plastic out of the cluster to insert the pick up device thats all.

Thanks for the info.

Had not found the pickup in the cluster. Will look.

Wiring was, well, somewhat disorganised, even when I bought the car. There's an understatement!!

Been ripping out stuff that I figure is worth grabbing, before the hulk goes to the wrecker for crush.

Other than the pickup (on the speedo, I presume), any other components ?

 Cheers

As long as you get everything attached to the cruise wiring harness including it then you should have everything.A wiring diagram is a handy guide.

Maybe I was not clear enough about the wiring state.

 Think squirrel nest.

 Think squirrel with a neurosis!

 That comes close, anyways.

Gotta get out to the hulk and chase down some wire sections, then, find a wiring diagram.

 Fun!

Thanks! Been reading good info here for some time.

Got the pickup sussed!

Scrounged up the wiring sections attached to the pickup plug.

 Got the column switchgear.

Found out that the junker has (had)  power door locks. Pneumatic. Go figure.

I think they were trying to get back at us for what happened in WW2. Wadda contraption!

 But back to the point.

Gotta dig up a couple wiring diagrams and figure out what I gotta bootleg to get this to fit.

 Bwahhhaaaahhhaaahhahahaaa!!!

 Cheers
