What would the gear ratio be like if I put a 1.6 N/A diesel tranny onto a 1.8 gas engine? How would it behaive, would it be geared down or up? I just don't like driving an auto, and plus it gets worse gas mileage.
diesel tranny on a 1.8 gas engine. well since its the n/a diesel, it should be on par with the 1.8 tranny. then again, anything is better than an auto box!!!!! they are horrible on the highway. 3500 rpm @ 100km/h?
but driving around town is cool with the auto box. no matter how hard i drove that thing it wouldn't die... shifts @ 7k rpm etc. 2nd gear was USELESS lol tranny still worked, and engine had serious blowby (air filter was SOAKED) still ran, but body was shiite
Look underneath the car next to oil pan on the bottom of the bellhousing of the tranny. There should be a little flat pad machined into the aluminum there with a transmission code stamped into it. Check this code and then go over to Roger's Caddy Shack site.
http://www.4crawler.com/VWpickup.shtmlHe has a table there with all of the tranny codes on it and their accompanying gear ratios and most prevelant years and models of use.
Hello, my rabbit has a FN 5-speed, the rpm in 5th is 500rpm lower than a '86 golf 1.8 with a 5-speed
Ya, fortunately, I think mine is going to be lower rpm's than the original one too. I am very relieved of it

. It will have better mpg's too!
