im still confused about the main bearings?
« on: October 17, 2007, 06:14:05 pm »
originally i ordered standard mahle bearings, made in brazil, but turns out i had to have the crank turned... so i had to order some 25thousands bearings and those ones where KS kolbenshmidit or something...

both look similar but the ones from brazil have like a copper on them, the ks bearings do not, their all the same kind of metal...

what is this 3piece stuff im hearing about?

which ones are better of the two that i have? is there a better set out there? the bearings out of my 2.0 aba appear 3 pieces, they had this C shaped spacer in them, my diesel bearings do not, should i return them?

There are lots of threads here, there and the other place.

I did the searching and posted the results in my post in this thread.

In the third link down in my post fsbGTD has some pictures showing integral and seperate thrust.

Jimbote (near the end of the 3rd page) had allready installed the wrong bearings then he removed the integral thrust after reading this thread and then put in some used mains and original thrust washers in that position, after checking/plastigaging them.

I used Glyco bearings that I bought from Myke_W on this forum.

yeah that was the problem i had with my engine...

although i put about 6k miles on it after i bought it and i dont think it had been rebuilt at least in the last couple of years...

but yup, the thrust ate my crank, and i had to have it turned

i dont want this to happen again, like i said i've bought 2 brands now and both are the integrated thrust... KS and mahle so the only thing left now is glyco
