im helping a friend change a headgasket and we got 9 out of the 10 headbolts loose and out, no problem. one broke loose farily easily like the rest, but has been getting harder and harder to loosen. im afraid something is about to break so we've stopped where we are at. am i paranoid for no reason or am i about to break something?
thoughts?

if not you'll be doing another headgasket in the not so distant future because you won't torque it properly

hmmm makes me wonder why it was so hard to remove. the head bolts on my TDI were easy as pie to remove with a nice long bar. did you remove them in sequence? maybe you should check the head for warpage.
is it for a 1.6? you could try a 1.9 hg like the rest of us

yup removed them in sequence. i probably should check for warpage, but not really sure what i should be measuring...
any ideas on the HG & head bolts? im not too fond of having to plug a whole in the gasket unless someone has a fool proof way of running the 1.9

ah yes... with solid lifter your best bet is to stick with stock gasket unless you want to be brave and try something new.
