Wow MK2GTD that car has an amazing spec! What difference does the 1.9 TD cam make and is it a straight drop in? How does it go?!

Bert,

Performance is good, 50mph in third and still pulling all the way round to the red in the rev counter, havnt been on the public hyway as its SORN till i come back from Basrah in April....... 4 month holiday courtesy of the RAF. I had to wind the fuel settings back a bit as it was smoking like a traction engine an it spinning the wheels changing fron first to second in the wet.  The wastgates been adjusted and i have an actuator of a RS Turbo Fiesta on it. Bit of a mish mash on the Turbo side, the company we use to recon the turbos on out fire trucks said it was good for 150 bhp !!!, somehow i dont think my head gasket could cope with that much boost pressure.

What i thought was a 10mm head is a 11mm.. no wonder it bloody smokes, the head came of a perkins prima pump, for us old pharts who remember that icon of British motor engineering....... a Maestro Diesel, the Montego one is the same.   Apart from fire trucks i also work on Landrovers, the Military variant (WOLF) they run a 300 TDI engine with a bosche VE pump fitted, dont know what size the head is on those, will have to get one through the system and try it out, thats if it fits !!

Type vw 10mm diesel head on google and it should bring you an American site up, think its called vw diesel engineering, he does 10mm head for $99 ( 50 quid) plus post and packing. Also PROTHE on ebay.com does them aswell, i had a set of .205 nozzels of him for my B5 110 TDi ( red i ) Passat, that thing shiffted  :D

Bert did you put your VDO pressure sender in the head or the oil filter housing ? I have 2 VDO "T" pieces and was going to put the pressure sender in the filter housing and oil temp sender in the head using T pieces to retain the s senders that are fitted.

My oil pressure sender is on the side of the head, the oil temp sender is on the filter housing,i put the pressure sender on the head as its the farest away from the pump,if theres no pressure there i know im in the quadmire    when its read hot after a thraping i see 2 bar on the head, when its cold 9 bar at tickover,10 bar if revved to 1500 rpm.
I will look for a monty fuel pump then,i scrapped 3 maestro vans and a monty turbo recently    i didnt even look, bosch pumps too

Con,

The cam i am refering to is the cam plate in the injection pump, yes it did make a bit of a differance  :D ......... smoke wise... :(   luckily for me we have VOSA Diesel Smoke Test equipment in the workshop, had to adjust the timing a bit to get it right, Still smokes a bit but will run some millers diesel addative through when i get back next year.

Your car looks good, any reason why the head is off ?

I have a spare head, GTD injection pump, inlet and exhaust manifold laying around in work..... the inlet and exhaust manifold i am taking with me to Basrah next month, i have a new set of gaskets and i am going to match the inlet and exhaust ports to the gasket, when i get some down time, a mild bit of polishing on both of them to improve the flow.  The pump is going off to the company we use for our fire trucks to play with while i am away, see what they come up with.  Would like to take the head and port  / polish that too but with all the kit i am taking out, there is a weight limit, the head can wait till i am back in the UK.  One of the lads who works for me knows the bloke who builds the diesel engines for the VW Caddy TDi Motorsport van, might see what he can do for me if he can be approached.
