A hint for you on searching for those, caddy:  These are called wing windows.

The earlier style of wing windows had the glass glued to the hinges and handle (glue of a similar sort used to hold the rear view mirror to the windshield), however this glue sometimes let go resulting in a non-functioning vent or one missing it's glass (they fall out onto the road and shatter!)  The early glued-in versions are not highly sought after, and with the right connections here in the wrecking yards, you could probably find lots of used ones for cheap.

The bolt-in style of wing window are more highly sought after as a replacement for the folks who have had problems with their glued-in wing windows.  I can say that VW switched from the glued in to the bolt-in variety somewhere between '81 and '84 model year.

I removed my glue-in wing windows from my '81 years ago and replaced them with troublefree solid fixed glass.  I will keep an eye out in the wrecking yard for wing windows for you.

Once, a friend open a glued-in window while driving at 70km/h. It fell out and bounced and flipped along the road for about 300m before coming to a rest totally intact. After giving him a shot in the arm he didn't quickly forget, I pulled a U-turn and headed back, only to watch it get run over  by a woman in a BMW. damn!
I have a few pairs of these, bolted style, in stock.

  I had a friend do exactly the same thing!  Except when the glass hit the pavement it immediately burst into thousands of pieces of glass-corn (ya know, broken tempered glass...)

Hey, will those work in a '79 for a retrofit?  And if so, who still has a pair?

I'd love to get my hands on a pir of bolted (we call them) quarter vents. Can anybody help? My '78 Golf has the glued type and the previous owner gave up and stuck them in with silicone.

I've been looking around on the vortex for people parting out '84 Rabbits.
I found a guy about 2 hours away and got a set for $15 (less than shipping for the ebay ones). I had to pull them and the seals aren't good enough but the rubber from my glue-on wings should swap in.
