Look at this cracked bracket, no wonder it has started badly the last weeks and rattled a bit extra. Even though all the bolts were in place.
Vibrations can cause serious damage I suppose

Holy *** some of the guys in another thread were saying that it's impossible to bend or break this bracket in normal operation  Was the engine ever swapped or the car in an accident? You're lucky the timing belt didn't slip off.
No, the engine has not been in an accident, but I swapped this engine from another "parts" car I bought. But It wasnīt damaged in any way.
I think the timing belt almost slipped of today when I went home from work, the car smoke alot of white smoked and died on me a couple of times. I went out and checked the timing belt first thing. But I didnīt see the cracked bracket then.
But when I disassembled it back home I saw what was causing the car to shudder and behave strange
To bad you don't live closer! I could do one of my magical welds and make it stronger than before! but a good welder should be able to weld that up for you!
thanks Duane
I have an extra one of those brackets if you really need one. Its in good condition (its not cracked)

I dont know if it really worth it to ship to Sweden.
Thanks, but I already got it up and running again. I went to the local junkyard and picked one up from a wrecked Golf III.
By the color of the cracked surface, it appears that it has been cracked for some time. Most likely someone had smacked the bracket in the past, most likely with some large object ( big big hammer). good luck with the repair.

That's what I was thinking when I first saw it.
tesla had a theory that at the right frequency, vibrations could take down large buildings, and supposedly had an experiment that proved it.
wonder if your motor was vibrating at the right frequency???
but by the looks of the rust, its not a fresh crack. if that is seriously just from the motor vibrating though, kind of scary... lets hope that someone did the damage.
