TDI EGR, MAF, codes?
« on: October 11, 2007, 05:40:10 pm »
My buddy bought a jetta 02 i believe. He's getting an MAF code. From what i've read i'm thinking the intake is probably clogged. What needs to be done to eliminate the EGR? VAG-COM what is it? Other than a computer tuning tool.

TDI EGR, MAF, codes?

from what i understand, and since im inheriting a 98 tdi jetta myself,i need  a hand too
first your issue:
you need  a vag com to dial back the egr duty cycle
i dont think you can eliminate it completely without throwing a CEL
have fun cleaning the intake
i removed mine+used a propane torch to burn out the carbon along with soaking in a parts washer
it could just be that the maf was shot too,my g/f's 99 vr6 maf died,it just flatlined its flow rate all the time at a set number

im not sure on how to attack the ports yet,but im pullin the cam since im doin a timing belt anyways
and will probably end up doing lots of hand cleaning ,keeping chemicals to a minimum
Im pretty sure i can block my egr on my mk3 from what i heard
i guess its  as simple as making a gasket that doesnt have a hole in it for the egr plumbing
someone should chime in,cause if i can eliminate it on my dads 03 golf tdi without throwing a code,im gonna do it to his  too!!!
