1600td noob here!
« on: October 11, 2007, 04:18:03 am »
Alright guys,  just bought a 1600td mk2 golf '91.  Gonna be a daily hack so I can do some work on my mk4 but would still like it to run as it should so I will be back on here later to do some studying.

Car is a JAP import to the UK, bit strange but just means it hasn't rusted as much.lol

Any thoughts off the tops of your heads on the main things to do(when, if, it ever stops raining)?

Changed oil, filters and rocker gasket so far  Anyone know the oil fills for the engine and box?  Mainly box as I will drain it and refill at some point and the engine has been done with the dipstick, so no probs.

Cheers
Gadge

Timing belt?
Waterpump while your there?
Govnah mod?
Advance the timing a tad?

New nozzles?.

As for the gear box/ oil level goes. I haven't looking in my Bentley to get an actual quantity but I believe there is a drain plug on the bottom and a refill plug on the side, So drain it and refill it level with the threads on the refill plug on the side of the box. If that makes any sense at all.

Spend a couple of hours in the FAQ section, there is some solid information in there that will get you a great understanding of your new toy  :D

The gearbox plugs are occasionally messed up because they are 17mm hex and POs sometimes mess them up.

I've burnt two holes in my head where my eyes used to be reading this stuff.  What can be utilised from the GTD on my TD to help the go factor

GTD and TD are basically the same thing, everything you do to one you can do to the other

I walk around like this a lot too

Thanks for all the positive replies guys.  Been in the VAG scene for a while and had lost a bit of faith with all the desktop jockies bringing the forums down.  Really nice and refreshing to be on here, no hassles just helpful input :)
