This is my post from the VWVortex.
Not too sure if I want to do this but a friend's car is up for sale and I'd like to take it into my hands.
Details:
220,000 on the body
5,000ish on the engine (The engine was supposedly rebuild 2 1/2 years ago 2 owners ago. I have no documents to verify this but I've done the hard work to contact the previous owner and he did verify the engine was reringed and everything was resealed. The thrust washers in the bottom end have ZERO play in them so I'm highly doubting it's the original engine). Car also has a block heater.
Body is in good condition. The passenger side rear door has a dent in it and the drivers side rear door is a different color. Nothing on the car leaks!
I also suspect the KKK24 turbo on the car is also somewhat newer. This turbo is capable of pushing up to 24psi all day long. So no need to upgrade unless you're looking for big power.
The interior is in alright shape. The old blue dash has some crack's in it and one of the door cards is sagging. I have a mint set of GLI door cards to go with the car included in the sale.
The car is currently sitting on New Neuspeed Race Springs on stock struts. Included in the sale are a set of Yellow Bilstein Sports with no more than 5,000 miles on them.
I also bought a set of snowflakes for the car with good tires all around. One snowflake isn't in the best of shape but they're just snowflakes. Also included are a set of studded snows.
The bad:
The injection pump recently started leaking because of the ULSD. It's cheap to get it resealed ($115 + $15 shipping). Because of this the cars mileage has dropped from 50mpg to 35mpg. It doesn't impair it from going anywhere.
It needs an exhaust. The car has a major leak but surprisingly it isn't unbearably loud. Anyone who has owned a turbo car knows how a turbo significantly quiets down the exhaust. I got quoted $200 from a local muffler shop to bend 2 1/2 piping from the downpipe back.
It needs a drivers side front wheel bearing. That b!tch just started humming.
It also needs the oil warning light fixed. There is an oil pressure gauge installed so I know the oil pressure is golden, it just goes off when it wants to. I will include a new sender as well.
If you fix the above you'll have an extremely reliable car that gets an average of 45mpg between the highway and city. Driving this car home I got 53mpg coming from Augusta, Maine. And with some simple mods you can nearly double the stock HP and TQ with ease.
Pricewise I'm looking for
$2200 and I'm really not that negotiable. Turbo diesel's aren't easy to find and I had to venture off to Maine for this one. I also have spent $400 in suspension so far. $150 on wheels. $50 on a tire, etc.
If I have to keep this I won't be upset but I'd like to sell it quickly.
