FS: NEW Re-man DIESEL STARTER for 020 trans with WARRANTY
« on: October 03, 2007, 03:10:44 pm »
Had to make a new ad here for this, but the starter is STILL AVAILABLE!!! Just a new posting for it :)

Was originally for a MK1 diesel (be it caddy, rabbit, jetta, etc...)

Comes with the lifetime warranty receipt if you ever need to replace it!!! I've already done it once and will now be going to 02a this fall/winter so I won't need this for the mk1 mTDI as the unit I have in there now is working great =)

Will fit any diesel from MK1,  early MK2 and maybe even late MK2 MK3 w/ AAZ motor and or any 020 setup. (please see below regarding mounting points)

So...brand new, still in its plastic wrapping...w/ warranty receipt...
Hasn't even ever been mounted, etc.

UPDATE:
$80.00 shipped!!! FIRM in the lower 48!
Because of shipping rate changes/service changes in shipping to CAN, shipping will have to be adjusted there. But I'm willing to ship to you guys up north as well!!!

Let me know! Def. if you had posted interest, etc!

Joe

Joe,
did you ever call that guy that that can make up those special 120/140amp alternators with the "W" terminal? I sent him an E-mail that you would be calling and he would hook you up!

No, not yet :( I've had some other things I needed to take care of and have been pretty busy. I still have our convo taken down so I will call, just haven't had a chance yet.

Thanks though!

Does the starter have 2 or 3 mounting points?

If it only has 2 points it won't work properly on the later mk2s and mk3s no?

Was doing a little looking into this and I can't remember...as its been a while since I worked with an MK2 and can't picture it in my head...
But...the mk2, especially the later cars might have had an extra "ear" on them...
Like this picture.
http://www.germanautoparts.com/displayimage.php?file=25764818S3
I can't remember what exactly (or where) that extra mount attached too except I think that it was to the front donut mount as part of the front bracket for the mount on later mk2 cars...

Here is an mk3 unit (though...they do now offer an updated version that requires no bushing install, etc. which is kinda nice!)

http://www.germanautoparts.com/displayimage.php?file=55754514S6

It shows a third mounting point as well, though in neither of these situations are they are "critical" starter to engine mounting point. Again, I believe the 3rd point, the ear on these is another securing for the starter to the mk2 (late) mk3 front mounting bracket for the motor mount. Somewhere downstairs, I have one and could look!

Like originally stated...it is a rebuilt/new unit for a mk1 diesel...will def. fit early mk2's as well and the orientation of the mountings on the 020 never changed so this will mount to any 020 trans. I can't remember the importance of that extra "ear" mount on the starter (like i said...think its a front bracket bolt that goes there).

Thanks for making me think about it and look into it! From there, I guess everyone else can decide!
The last few that inquired though have been mk1 guys! Still here though...

The later front motor mounts have a third mounting point on them possibly because the front motor mount actually supports the weight of the engine unlike in the MK1s. I'm not sure about the early mk2s though. It will bolt up to the later MK2s/MK3s but you will be missing the short (60mm ish) bolt.

I don't know how critical it is, I drove around for 30 000 kms without one of the big main bolts on my mk2 because I couldn't get it in when I bought the car (bum starter) and I just forgot about it. I cracked the motor mount in half

thanks for the information and I changed my descript as well. I don't believe that third mounting is all that much of a "load bearing" mount...especially compared to the two actually tranny mounting bolts. the weight of the Mk2 mount is still actually supported by the two "main" starter bolts that go through the starter, block and into the mount which is then supported by the mount and front crossmember of the subframe. That I do know :)
I believe early MK2 mounts lacked the "third" mounting as well...but, don't quote me. I believe its extra insurance...but, hopefully someone will find a use for it :)

Glad we looked at the info though! Appreciate it. Now...if it will sell, that'd be great.
I'm even open to trades for other stuff I'm looking for in the mTDI b3 project....
including:
-t3 or k24 and TD exhaust manifold
-120amp TDI alternator
-TDI mk3/b4 starter for manual 5speed 02a trans
-1z/AHU injector lines
-mk1 85+ (cabby or rocco) 100mm axles and/or spindles
-bbs "RA" basketweave wheels (from MK2 Gli's) 15"
Just in case anyone has anything around...

Don't let winter have you finding that you need a new starter! Its a pain!
;)

I balieve that the diesel starter was the most well built items designed! I can't think of one time that i had to replace one except for in my gas days I used a diesel starter on my gas rabbit because of course they lasted longer!
somebody's gotta need it? i hate to be just another comment!
