iirc CY was discussed some time ago, and found to be a genuine TD block.  i'm not 100% sure on this, but i remember it being in a rabbit for sale on ebay.

I don't believe that the GTD block is any different to the hydraulic CY block.

Here in Limeyland CY went from 82 to 88 in the Quantum covering shimmed and hydraulic and beyond into the MK3 Passat/Audi [80]/4000 . We never had the MF block which USA had as hydraulic. GTD were RA and SB codes....

that helps! but i still want to find out what the difference between a TD and a GTD? and what was done by VW to squeze 80 HP out of a engine that looks like it should have 68HP? this is just a learning curve for me! what is the secret? L.O.L.
 thanks Duane
the CY i have came from an 84 jetta that was marked turbo from the factory but it is a mechanical block! the MF must of been the hydrolic block?

MF came out in '95 ish. The GTD basically had an intercooler added to cool the intake air thus you get more cooler denser oxygen therefore everything can then be tweeked up [extra fuelwise] Bigger injectors and possibly different enrichment device on aneroid diaphragm.

No reason at all why you can't get 80HP out of the CY block and 90HP out of an intercooled GTD etc etc.

The caveats are extra power tends to cause extra heat; so best to monitor with thermocouple.
Possibly shimmed head can be revved higher than hydraulic head...

i bet that's a typo. over here i think MF was issued around 1985. its the AAZ 1.9L TD that was in 1993. the MF in my driver is from a '90. i think MFs came hydraulic and solid lifter. good on VW for no code change

thanks Duane
