glowplug tip

Well, my truck hasn't been starting well lately, so I looked at it. 3 bad glowplugs. I found an easier way to deal with the wire and 8 mm nut, as I put individual wires on instead of the buss bar. I put the wire on, screwed the nut on enough to expose some threads, then lightly crimped some of the threads so that the nut couldn't easily come off. Then I used the wire to drop the glowplug down and guide it into the hole. After the glowplug is tight, then just tighten the nut.
I found glowplugs at a Checkers. I got other part numbers for various brands.

What sorta wire did you use? I have some heat shielded 12 awg, but that seems awful small.

Each plug draws 10 amps or so, so 12 ga wire is just fine.

I use 10 gauge, but then I tend to over-engineer everything !

I over tightened a brand new one last time I had it apart

I soldered the wire to the end of the glowplug when this happened to me. then i cased the whole thing in JB weld. Come time you remove the GP i need to break off the JB but at least it works for now and it was a cheap&easy way to save 20$.

I'd just like to add: If you have the timing tools, or you mark your pump before hand... loosening the IP is a good way to get the GP's out quite easily. Loosen up the bolts and pull it as far towards you as you can! then tighten one of them up again to hold it there.

I put a magnet in my 8mm socket, the little bolts just stay in the socket.

couple of  long cable ties worked super for me

I always use grease. I put a little dab on the end of my finger and then stick the nut to my finger. I just reach down and place the nut on the end of the glowplug. Then it's a matter of holding your finger there while you use a long screw driver to start the nut.

Removing the injection lines is step #1 of course...
