I have a bit of experience with turbos in general, but not much with turbo diesels...
My questions regarding the actual use of the 1.9TD are...
This turbo seems to be smaller and more suited to the 1.6. Is this true? I'm not overly worried about peak power, but more useable power. Is it worth it to switch to this turbo?
Now some questions for the actual install..
Will the oil feed/return lines be interchangeable? Would I need to change these at all? Can the downpipe remain the same or does that need to be replaced as well? What is the stock wastegate pressure set to on the 1.9 Turbo?
I was thinking of doing this for a weekend job, since I use this as my daily. Thanks for any help.
Ok, turbo oil lines may or may not work. I've seen 1.6TD oil return lines dump into the oil pan, while my 1.9TD goes back into the block (somewhere). I'm not even certain of their interchangeability, but you will likely need both intake and exhaust manifolds and maybe even a different down pipe to make it work.
I have the K03 turbo in my 1.9TD. It spools from 1800 - 2400rpm where it reaches full boost at 10-11psi +/- 1 psi. However, this will be shifted up the rev range with the lower displacement of the 1.6. I'd rather skip the headache of swapping turbos and work on reducing backpressure and improving fueling.
