Actually sold it about a week ago to a guy on here (addautomotive). I got 400 bucks out of it. he bought it for the engine alone. He said he'd never seen a crank pulley wobbling as bad as my one was. My serp belt tensioner had broke 2 days before I sold it too. that was the last straw for me really. I was sad as hell to see it go, I know if I had 500 bucks in my pockets I could have fixed up the worst problems the car had and likely driven it through the winter easily but that was not the case for me. I took the money I got from selling the Jetta and bought
this. It's probably not as much of a basket case as the Jetta was. That 4 wheel drive is sure gonna come in handy this winter.
subaru's aren't that much better... fuel wise and reliability. those boxer's are pretty quick though
Thanks again, I'm glad that worked out for both of us.
FWIW, I have never seen a crank pulley that bad. I was concerned enough that I could only buy the car if he drove it to the shop that was pulling the engine for me... I was worried it wouldn't make it that far.
At the shop, when they started it and had a look they yelled "SHUT IT OFF! SHUT IT OFF!" You'd think the crank pulley had been taped on.
Other than that, the engine is SWEET. Looks like it's had a recent headgasket, and new/rebulit injectors. The k14 is great too... no axial play at all. I was going to pull it apart and sell the bits, but now I'm thinking I'll fix the crank and put it in my samurai.
That'll leave me with two 1.6TDs to part out, with a third 1.6NA on the way.
Now you just need real tires and a lift kit.

Yep! I've got a set of 31's ready to go on. I'm just going to go with a small shackle lift. SPOA would be too extreme for a DD that my wife likes to use.
Post pics if you do have the crank fixed, I'd like to see how bad it was.

Will do. It's in my garage now, I hope to attack it next month.
I'll say this much: It's bad enough that I can wiggle it by hand.
