Buzzer going off in dash...
« on: September 18, 2007, 07:29:54 am »
When I push in the clutch and idle, there is an irritating buzzer going off.  Let the clutch out and move on down the road, the buzzer quits. The oil light is on but that has come on and off randomly for some time without the buzzer.

just did and oil and filter change to see if that might be the cause. No change. any thoughts on the cause?  And how does one check oil pressure with a gauge?

buy a cheapie gauge and hook it up.  you will need a to tee into the oil pressure system where there is a sensor.  hopefully its just a faulty sensor because it sounds like a big problem if its happening when you depress the clutch

Cool. Thanks. Where is the Oil Pressure Sensor?  I don't have a good manual to help me.

It seems like a sensor now.  Took it for a spin again.  Light goes out when deacceleration, on and flickering when accelerating, and flickers when holding speed.

MMmmmmm.

theres two sensors.  one on the filter housing and one on the side of the head.  oil filter housing is the high pressure and the one on the head is the low pressure.

Got it. thanks. I think I will replace the sensors as long as I am playing/fixing/futzing/getting dirty, etc.

Replaced both sensors... whole $6.65 usd.  Now the oil lite behaves  as it should. When running at speed, it's off, when idling it's on and the buzzer is buzzing.  So now I am pretty sure I have low oil pressure at idle. I think I'm one step closer to an engine rebuild.  With the water system being pressurized by a crack in the block somewhere, oil consumption is a Qt/800 miles, and the oil pressure is low.  "Clear out the garage, the Caddy is in for the winter."

you sure that you bought the right sensor? i think theres two different kinds that open at certain pressures... that will definitely screw things up!

I think I did. My source for parts here is way! into these diesels ... know the parts and numbers from memory. Have yet to get a part that was wrong... which is more than I can say for most other parts places.  What did happen by replacing both sensors... they now jive with the dash light.

With oil pressure gauge now installed... the VW warning system is working as designed. The buzzer/pressure gauge is set to trigger at 27 psi. I have 25 psi at 900 rpm... idle.  Plenty of pressure while crizin'.  I do have a bad head gasket.   Soooo, off with it's head!
